DEBKAfile - First test of Israel’s Tamir short-range missile interceptor Wednesday

"The Tamir interceptor, which are designed to kill artillery shells and short-range rockets, undergoes its first test Wednesday, June 11. Its object is to find out if its response time can be shortened against Palestinian Qassam missiles fired from Gaza or Hizballah’s short-range rockets launched from Lebanon.

These announcements are usually made after the fact. This time the test launch was disclosed with the location of the testing site in southern Israel in advance, giving the Palestinian Hamas a chance to monitor the system’s performance from Gaza."

The Cycle: Black And White

As the title states, I was trying to convey the cycle of nature, we all know what the bee is up too, and it is amazing that they do it so diligently. Very simple photo, i didn't want anything to take away from the mission that the bee was on, capturing a species doing what it does to survive is a something that photogprahy has done for a very long time, and is always going to be a great way for one to express their views and experiences with nature.

Stepping Falls: Black And White

Shotting these waterfalls located about 15 min. from my house, was the training ground for my the majority of my first year taking photographs. These waterfalls haev many different levels and configurations, so the hard part is usually choosing which place to start since there are so many good shots available in this area. It was a very overcast day, which helped alot in gaining a soft look to this photograph. Trying out a new signature as well on thie photo, hope you like it.

In FLight: Black And White

I know, I know, it's no bald head eagle. I am sure that there are some people who would like to see a bald eagle slam this bird out of the sky, but, they are my practice birds, so you will probably see a couple more before i get out and focus my lens on some big prey birds (hopeing to do somewhat of a series on prey birds shortly for my portfolio). This was shot by panning on my tripod, it was during feeding time so they where floating along the beach with their wings in fast V shape.

Through The Fence: Black And White

What made this scene so photogenic to me was the way the fence was built, diffent than usual post type of fences. Felt it gave some nice lines for composition. Added some serious vingetting, but i wanted as much focus through fence as I could. I lost a little detail in the background trees due to heavy winds that day, but it did keep the black flies away.

No Relation: Black And White

Being an overcast day, I did this shoot with an ISO of 200 so i could get a clear distinction of the bird in the bottome right corner, but doing this along with under expossing by 1/2 a stop by using a smaller apature than the original light meter reading, i was able to darken the bird in the back slightly, more shading was added in photoshop, but not much. I feel that by doing this it added a nice contrast between the subject since there is a busy background as well.

Radiant Foilage: Black And White

It was the end of my photo day and as I came out of the woods I looked back and the vibrant greens of trees really captured my attention. With my mind being in black and white mode, I could see that the contrast was going to work well with the shadowed background of the tree trunks and branches. A smaller apapture of f22 was used to gain as much detail as possible from the shadowed areas, and to keep all those little twigs and smaller branches which add some depth to a fairly plain shot. Vingetting was used for added depth.

Climb The Fence: Black And White

There is a fence in there! This location was really interesting, it was down a really unmaintained road, it had a real feeling as though no one had been there in a long time. Everything had grown over, no paths in the long grass, no garbage, just pure nature. I set up in the ditch so i could get a level shot over the foilage to so i could capture as much of the nice cloud movement. An overlay of black was used in the sky to give it a dark cotrasting look and give some depth and work again with the clound movement.

Woven Strength: Black And White

This was taken a little while ago (kind of misplaced it) This was taken just after a lite rain on a muggy summer day, some of drops really gave a more interesting look to the web. A very shallow depth of field was used, i wanted the viewer to really go to the spider on this photo, so that hopefully a person might be a little freaked cause there eyes get drawn to it fast, cause when i took it i wasn't afraid of it, but they are still a little creepy, especially when your hovering around it trying to get a good angle, I probably looked a little creppy too it as well, a 6 foot 2, 215 pound guy pressed into a evergreen tree hovering over top of it with a DSLR snappng away. Ahh well, we both made it through, and it turned out to be one of my favourite shots.

Amongst The Drops: Black And White

Not being able to get low enough with my tripod and the fact that i was using a 75-300mm lens at the time to tighten the distance up and get the blur in the foreground and backgroud to level out with the midground. I had to resort to takeing the photo from inside my bedroom, out my ground level window, it gave a perfectly level shot with the ground, and i didn't get soaked in the rain.

Years Back: Black And White

While driving down the road i came up over a small hill and WHAM! this photo jumped right out at me. I could tell just the way the fence ran across that it would give a good composition line to draw to the old run down house. I stopped down 1 stop to deepen the shadows of the brick and roof top, it was a very bright day so the highlights give it a rather mystical look while maintaining the natural light that was present at the time.

Rising Hay: Black And White

In order not to let the hay get over taken by the frame filling sky, I added a black gradient from the top to send the the focus of the eye straight through the center of the photograph. A fast shutter speed and cable release was utilized to capture the movement of the hay, a slight breeze sends that stuff in a frenzy.

Tri Light: Black And white

Often when your in search for the perfect shot, you come across things that just fall into place and work the light just right. As the light passed through the flowers it softened just a little in the next flower, it gave a great sence of movement from front to back. After many failed exposures I was able to get the look i was searching for by using ISO 100, aperture f16, focal length 128mm(shot with a 75-300mm to tighten the flowers up a little) and a shutter speed of 1/200.

Frozen Falls: Black And White

This was one of my first water fall shots. As I am sure with any nature photographer, the first real sense of accomplishment is when you can mimic the pro's. The flowing water effect is one those, it feels great to see the final shot where you had the apature and shutter hand in hand to get the feeling of movement. Now, a little secret to confess on this one, yes it was winter time, and yes this is a water fall, but the title "Frozen Falls" really has nothing to do with that. It has to do with me slipping on some ice, landing in some water, and a frozen walk back to my car. Gotta love the outdoors!

The Search: Black And White

While walking thorough a field I almost crushed this photo. By stopping quickly and backing up slightly, the bee did not seem to mind my presence. I laid down on my stomach, and slowly moved towards the bee covered flower, and was able to get two frames shot before he took off in search of another, more private flower. I used a slight Gaussian blur layer on this to give the pestles of a rather boring dandelion some flare.

Signs Of Spring: Black And White

While shooting some blossoms on a tree, this robin was walking around me for a considerable amount of time. After I got the blossom shot, I slowly tried to reposition to take photos of the bird, but he/she caught on to what i was up to and off it went, just a few feet away, and it proceeded to walk down the trail, with me in pursuit and using my tripod as a monopod to keep mobile, I was able to get a shot for the split second he turned around, and by upping the ISO I was able to reduce the camera shake that could have happend with trying to stay mobile enough to keep up. Some vignetting was used just to bring the robin out a bit more.

Resting Pond: Black And White

After a short journey through somewhat marshy ground i came upon a small pond that was raised up slightly which game me the angle i was looking for. After waiting a while for the coulds to roll in, they finally came through along the tree line, would have like them a little higher, but you go with what nature gives you. A black gradient was added in photoshop to enhance the sky a little, i feel it draws the viewer into the photo.

Washed Ashore: Black And White

The direction this drift wood was facing worked well with the wave line to create some nice diagonal compostion lines. Getting a shot where the wave would be just touching the wood took a while, but just before frustration set in, a quick touch on the cable relase and it was mine. This was shot from a very low position (as low as the tripod would go with out getting to close that the camera would get washed away) and tilted forward slightly to fit the drift wood snug into the bottom corner of the frame. I used some vignetteing to help the prominance of the drifwood and add a little depth.

Weathered Motion: Black And White

As I was drving around following a certain cloud structure, I came across this barn. The hill it was on gradually sloped down which added to compostion giving the eye something to follow to the barn. Being spring the leaves haven't really started show yet, but I think it helped this photo, by looking rustic and bare they have a good relation with the barn. As with most of my black and whites, a black gradient was added in photoshop to enhance the sky, this one is quite a bit darker than most, but it really pushes the focus to the barn.
